How much has Germany gained from its membership of the Euro?

It is an irony that in what is supposed to be a currency union of partners we spend so much time looking for winners and losers! The list changes as there was a time when the current largest loser Greece appeared to be a winner. The onset of the credit crunch reshuffled the pack and led the Euro area into quite a different place. Also the crisis has seen the media often push the view that Germany has been a loser and there have been regular reports of it being defeated at the European Central Bank. Putting it another way we have seen the policies of Mario Draghi pursued rather than the more hardline suggestions of Jens Weidmann who heads the German Bundesbank. Indeed the “whatever it takes (to save the Euro)” speech given by Mario Draghi in the summer of 2012 was seen as a clear victory over Germanic influences. On that road we have seen two trillion Euro projects with the LTROs and now QE as well as the mythical Jedi Mind Tricks of the Outright Monetary Transactions or OMTs.

However life is rarely that simple so let us examine an alternative agenda which is that Germany is in fact a beneficiary out of all this.

New polish president calls for more NATO troops

Andrzej Duda, new Polish president, has called on the NATO countries to deploy more troops as well as create new permanent military bases in his country and other Central Europe saying Poland does not want to be a “buffer zone.”
Duda, elected in May, criticized the alliance for not effectively adjusting itself to the recent Russia’s “imperialist actions” in Georgia and Ukraine as well as for treating his country as a “buffer zone” rather than an equal NATO member.
“We do not want to be the buffer zone. We want to be the real eastern flank of the alliance … Today, when we look at the dispersion of bases … then the borderline is Germany,” the conservative Polish President told The Financial Times. This was his first interview to a foreign media after entering the office on August 6.
He also urged the Atlantic bloc to strengthen its forces and increase its military presence in the Central Europe, particularly, by placing additional permanent bases in Poland. That, in his view, should symbolize recognizing Poland as a full-fledged NATO member.
“NATO has not yet taken note of the shift of Poland from the east to the west. NATO is supposed to be here to protect the alliance …  If Poland and other central European countries constitute the real flank of NATO, then it seems natural to me, a logical conclusion, that bases should be placed in those countries,” he said.
The Polish president added that the placing of permanent bases in Central Europe would be the central issue in the discussions during the NATO summit next year, hosted by Warsaw.

Proof program to erase the individual

The individual is now considered a) a criminal by definition, or b) a member of a group defined solely by ethnicity, color, religion, gender, or c) either in the 1% or the 99%.
But the individual is not considered to be himself/herself. Certainly not. Anything but.
In any of these countries, go back through the speeches of recent presidents and prime ministers and try to find a significant, positive, extensive mention of the individual. Good luck.
These days, mention "private property" and "individual" in the same sentence, and if you're understood at all, chances are you'll be labeled with some slur---because public-everything is supposed to be the utopian answer to humankind's ills.

Disturbing pictures have emerged from a military summer camp held on the outskirts of Kiev which show members of the voluntary group teaching so-called 'Azovets' how to behave as young fighters.
The children - which include girls and boys, some as young as six - are seen loading their guns, before taking part in exercises in which they crawl along the ground and fire at the enemy.
The camp comes under the command of Andriy Biletsky, who once admitted that the battalion 'do not like ceasefire at all'. The Azov men use the neo-Nazi Wolfsangel (Wolf’s Hook) symbol on their banner and several members are white supremacists or anti-Semites.
The conflict broke out in April last year, when separatists rebelled in eastern Ukraine against the rule of Kiev's new Western-looking government.
Since April 2014, more than 6,500 people have been killed in the war-torn country with experts warning the crisis could carry on for years, despite a peace deal being brokered in the Belarus capital Minsk in February.

Greece released a bit of amusing econ data on Thursday, as the country’s statistical authority claimed GDP grew by 0.8% in Q2, well ahead of estimates of a 0.5% contraction. While we suppose it’s feasible that things weren’t as bad in Q2 as they have been since (capital controls weren’t in place during the quarter), we think you’d be hard pressed to find anyone in Greece who thought things were looking up for the economy heading into the referendum. In any event it doesn’t matter, because as WSJ notes, the fiscal retrenchment enshrined in the country’s third bailout program combined with the generally poor outlook means Greece faces a two-year recession - at least...

Even when told not to, Windows 10 just can’t stop talking to Microsoft

Windows 10 uses the Internet a lot to support many of its features. The operating system also sports numerous knobs to twiddle that are supposed to disable most of these features and the potentially privacy-compromising connections that go with them.
Unfortunately for privacy advocates, these controls don't appear to be sufficient to completely prevent the operating system from going online and communicating with Microsoft's servers.
For example, even with Cortana and searching the Web from the Start menu disabled, opening Start and typing will send a request to www.bing.com to request a file called threshold.appcache which appears to contain some Cortana information, even though Cortana is disabled. The request for this file appears to contain a random machine ID that persists across reboots...

GSK bills UK government $92 million to compensate victims...

It looks like there's more trouble in Vaccineland, as UK-based jab giant GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) has been exposed for peddling a swine flu vaccine that caused brain damage in potentially thousands of children. But rather than be held responsible, GSK is actually billing the UK government the equivalent of about $92 million to pay for damages, which means taxpayers are footing the bill.
Reports indicate that dozens of Pandemrix victims from the UK will be awarded about $1.5 million each in British pounds for permanent health damage caused by GSK's Pandemrix vaccine. One in 16,000 people who took the vaccine, it turns out, are said to have developed narcolepsy and/or cataplexy, two neurological diseases that disrupt normal sleep patterns and muscle function.

British Labor Leader Backed Pastor Who Blamed 9/11 on Israel

Corbyn, a Parliament member who is on track to become the head of Britain’s Labor Party, wrote a letter in support of a priest who claimed that Israel and wealthy Jews were behind the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center.
Corbyn defended Rev. Stephen Sizer, who in February posted an article on Facebook blaming Israel for the attack on the New York landmark, the Daily Mail reported Wednesday.
In a letter to Anglican Church leaders after they decided to ban Sizer from using the Internet for six months, Corbyn wrote in February that Sizer was unfairly “under attack by certain individuals intent on discrediting the excellent work [he] does in highlighting the injustices of the Palestinian Israeli situation.” Corbyn has surprised many by leading in the race for Labor chief in polls of party members this summer.
According to the Daily Mail, he also has described Hamas and Hezbollah as his “friends” and is a close friend of Holocaust denier Paul Eisen, who runs a pro-Palestinian group called Deir Yassin Remembered.

Planned Parenthood Clinics Put In Black Neighborhoods To ‘Control Population’

Wednesday on Fox News Channel’s “Your World,” former Johns Hopkins neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson, a candidate for the 2016 Republican nomination, sounded off on Planned Parenthood, as the so-called women’s health organization has been under fire in recent weeks for a series of videos suggesting they were open to selling aborted fetal tissue for profit.

Carson referred to the founder of Planned Parenthood, Margaret Sanger and her position on eugenics, particularly as it pertained to blacks, which he said may not allow for him to be objective when it comes to Planned Parenthood.

“Well, maybe I’m not objective when it comes to Planned Parenthood. But you know, I know who Margaret Sanger is, and I know that she believed in eugenics, and that she was not particularly enamored with black people,” Carson said. “And one of the reasons that you find most of their clinics in black neighborhoods is so that you can find way to control that population. And I think people should go back and read about Margaret Sanger, who founded this place — a woman who Hillary Clinton by the say says she admires. Look and see what many people in Nazi Germany thought about her.”

New Hampshire’s drug problem is so dire, candidates stumping in the state have been forced to address the issue, whether they’re ready to or not.
A savage drug epidemic has seized New Hampshire, home of the presidential race’s first primary election. And that’s created a potent 2016 campaign issue—one that top candidates can’t afford to ignore.
In the past decade, the state government reports, the number of people admitted to state-funded treatment programs rose by 90 percent for heroin and 500 percent for prescription opiate abuse.
“We have in New Hampshire some of the highest per capita rates of addiction in the United States,” Tym Rourke, chairman of the New Hampshire governor’s commission on drug abuse, told The Daily Beast. “So we are very, very much at ground zero for addiction… Right now, we are having an overdose death every day.”
