Federal seizure program that benefits cops called ‘legal robbery’

Antoinette Lattimore was traveling from Cincinnati to Tucson two years ago to scout out African art, carrying nearly $20,000 in cash for possible purchases.
By the time she got to Arizona nearly a week later, she didn’t have that cash.
That’s because a Dayton, Ohio, police officer, deputized as a federal drug enforcement agent, seized the money despite the fact that he had no warrant to search her, she was not arrested and was not charged with any crime.
“I had no idea something like this could happen in America,” says Lattimore, 44, who lives in North College Hill. “I’ve never been arrested before in my life. I even could prove that it was my money but that didn’t matter.”

DHS Targets Library for Supporting Anonymous Internet Browsing

A library in New Hampshire caught the attention of the Department of Homeland Security recently after joining a project aimed at protecting the privacy of Internet users across the globe.
As reported by Propublica’s Julia Angwin, the incident began last July after the Kilton Public Library in Lebanon, New Hampshire, became the first in the country to set up a Tor exit relay under the Library Freedom Project. This allows users of the Tor browser to hide their true location, and if used correctly their identity as well, by having their Internet traffic routed through random relays all over the world.
“This is an idea whose time has come; libraries are our most democratic public spaces, protecting our intellectual freedom, privacy, and unfettered access to information, and Tor Project creates software that allows all people to have these rights on the internet,” the project’s website states.

According to the rating of mobile internet cost in various countries, Russia turned out to make the top free of those with the lowest prices.
Information Analysis agency Content Review carried out a research, which showed that only two countries managed to leave the Russian Federation behind. Iran is on top of the list, while Pakistan ranked second.
In Iran you should pay only 0.19 USD per 1GB of mobile web. In Pakistan users pay 1.01 USD per 1GB. In Russia the mobile internet costs as much as 1.72 USD per 1GB.
According to the specialists' evaluations, the Russian Federation also has the swiftest 3G wireless internet.

Massive wildfires are burning around Russia’s Lake Baikal – world’s largest and oldest freshwater lake – for the last month and a half, and the situation is now close to catastrophic. But as if that wasn’t enough, experts are saying underwater lake habitat around some areas amount to an environmental disaster.
